Position Overview
SRS Family Law is seeking an organized, reliable, and detail-oriented Family Law Legal Secretary / Paralegal to join our team. This position provides key support to attorneys and legal staff in all aspects of family law matters, including divorce, custody, parenting plans, child support, spousal support, restraining orders, modifications, and other domestic relations cases.
The ideal candidate is professional, compassionate, highly organized, and able to manage sensitive client matters with discretion and care. Family law can be fast-paced and emotionally charged, so we are looking for someone who can stay calm under pressure, communicate effectively, and help keep cases moving forward.
Key Responsibilities
The Family Law Legal Secretary / Paralegal will assist attorneys with drafting, filing, calendaring, client communication, case management, and general administrative support. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize deadlines, and a commitment to providing excellent service to clients.
Essential Duties
- Draft, revise, proofread, and format legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, declarations, motions, notices, and other case-related materials
- Assist with preparation of family law documents, including petitions, responses, financial declarations, parenting plans, child support worksheets, proposed orders, and settlement-related documents
- File documents with the court electronically and ensure proper service of documents on opposing parties or counsel
- Manage attorney calendars, court deadlines, hearings, mediation dates, discovery deadlines, and client appointments
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, experts, and other professionals in a professional and timely manner
- Organize and maintain physical and electronic client files
- Assist with discovery, including preparing discovery requests and responses, organizing documents, and tracking deadlines
- Gather, organize, and summarize client documents, financial records, exhibits, and case information
- Prepare hearing notebooks, trial binders, exhibits, and other materials for court appearances, mediation, arbitration, and settlement conferences
- Monitor case deadlines and help ensure attorneys are prepared for hearings, meetings, and filings
- Assist with intake, case opening, closing, and general case management
- Maintain confidentiality of all client and firm information
- Provide general administrative support as needed
Qualifications
- Prior legal secretary, paralegal, or law firm experience preferred
- Family law experience strongly preferred
- Strong writing, proofreading, formatting, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities
- Excellent communication and client service skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Professional, dependable, and able to handle confidential information appropriately
- Comfortable working with clients who may be experiencing stressful or emotional legal matters
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Adobe/Foxit, and electronic filing systems
- Experience with legal case management or document management software preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience drafting family law pleadings and correspondence
- Familiarity with court rules, legal deadlines, and e-filing procedures
- Experience with discovery, trial preparation, and exhibit organization
- Knowledge of family law procedures, including divorce, custody, support, and modifications
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent legal experience preferred, but not required
Work Environment
This position is performed in a professional law office environment. The role requires regular computer use, communication with clients and court personnel, document preparation, calendaring, and coordination with attorneys and staff. The position may require handling time-sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism and discretion.

Pay: $23.00 - $30.00 per hour
