The program will strengthen organizational capacity to address poverty and improve long-term community resilience in underserved communities across southern Puerto Rico. Through sustainable capacity-building strategies, VISTA member will support the development, coordination, and expansion of programs focused on financial capability, housing stability, disaster preparedness, climate resilience, digital inclusion, and community education. VISTA member will collaborate with PNHS staff, community leaders, municipalities, and partner organizations to strengthen systems that improve access to resources and services for low-income households and vulnerable populations. Key activities will include collaborating on partnership development, outreach and engagement efforts, and supporting data collection, performance measurement, and program tools to strengthen long-term sustainability. The program will also support community-based sustainability initiatives, including rainwater harvesting systems, energy resilience efforts, and educational workshops that promote disaster preparedness and environmental stewardship. Additionally, VISTA member will assist in strengthening community education initiatives that improve digital literacy and overall well-being, as well as housing stability and financial capability services, in collaboration and coordination with PNHS's Housing Counseling Department. Efforts will also include support for entrepreneurship and small business development initiatives through referrals and coordination with appropriate departmental resources to promote long-term economic opportunity and asset building in underserved communities. By building organizational infrastructure, expanding collaborative networks, and improving systems that support anti-poverty programming, the PNHS AmeriCorps VISTA Program will create sustainable community impact, empower residents, and increase long-term economic stability and resilience throughout southern Puerto Rico.
Member Duties : AmeriCorps VISTA member will strengthen PNHS’s capacity to address poverty by advancing community and climate resilience in underserved communities across southern Puerto Rico, supporting long-term efforts in disaster preparedness, energy resilience, and sustainable development. The member will contribute to program frameworks and coordination systems that support climate resilience initiatives, including rainwater harvesting and other sustainability efforts, while also promoting financial capability and housing stability programs in collaboration with the Housing Counseling Department. The VISTA member will collaborate with staff to create tools, standardized materials, and processes that expand and improve community education and engagement. Additionally, the member will support outreach systems and data collection to strengthen decision-making and long-term program impact.
