Future Stars, Inc. is a nonprofit in the Phoenix Metro area providing STEM education workshops throughout the academic school year: September - May. We are seeking instructors with experience working with elementary age children. You must have strong technical skills or the eagerness and ability to learn. This is a part-time position. Your schedule will depend on your availability and flexibility (you must provide your own transportation). We are looking for outgoing, personable, flexible instructors able to work in an environment with youth.
Ideal: Teachers, Retired Teachers, After School Professional or College students majoring in Computer Science, Engineering, Game Design, or Education are great candidates.
Required:
- Candidates must love working with children and have a willingness to teach children coding.
- Provide personalized instruction and feedback to each student to help them achieve their coding goals.
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods as needed to ensure maximum understanding and retention of material.
- Use effective and creative methods to impart knowledge for understanding
- Give constructive feedback to students when they make mistakes or do not understand the material being presented.
- Help students resolve difficulties they encounter in learning.
- Utilize various teaching resources such as coding software, online tutorials, and interactive games to enhance learning.
Schedule: 10 - 15 hours per week.
There are four coding locations throughout the valley, this instructor will be assigned to a location.
Salary: Stipend of $1,000 per month.
Training: Instructors will receive training from Future Stars, Inc. about the program and training in the classes they will teach. Instructors report to the STEM Program Coordinator of Future Stars, Inc.
Seeking: We are hiring 1 coding instructor to teach coding software to youth. The coding instructor actively engages students in the lessons, creates coding based interactive activities, manages students in the classroom, and communicates with families and helps prepare for the annual Hands On STEM Fair. If you are unfamiliar with one or two of the technologies listed below, do not hesitate to apply, we offer training for our courses!
Job Requirements Summary:
● You must be available from August – June
● You must have a valid driver's license.
● You must be very comfortable with technology and using computers.
● You must be willing to drive to each class.
● You must have a reliable vehicle that can transport class supplies and equipment in stackable containers.
● You must have the ability to think on your feet and be creative to keep kids engaged, while teaching.
● You must be able to lift 45 lbs.; you will usually transport 2-3 stackable containers to each class.
● You must be punctual and reliable.
● You must be able to teach students how to use Scratch and or Python
● You must be organized and efficient to run an effective class- students must always be supervised.
● You need self-confidence, energy, creativity and to be assertive enough to control a class of high energy elementary age students.
● You need to be able to work independently and be a self-starter.
● You must be willing to create/develop Hands on STEM activities.
● You must be able to communicate via email and phone with Future Stars, Inc. daily and have reliable Internet access, and a cell phone.
● Fingerprint Clearance card or background check will be conducted
