Position Overview
Operate large loaders and other heavy equipment to move, feed, stockpile, and manage woody feedstock material. The work is outdoors and physical. The role suits safety-minded operators with experience in agricultural, biomass, composting, wood-processing, construction, aggregates, grading, underground utilities, or similar material-handling environments.
We are looking for an operator who can work independently, stay productive without constant supervision, and work shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the team as the job calls for it.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate large wheel loaders to move, feed, stockpile, and manage woody material.
- Perform preshift equipment inspections and report maintenance issues.
- Feed grinders, screens, conveyors, hoppers, and other processing equipment.
- Build and maintain safe, organized stockpiles, roads, staging areas, and travel paths.
- Support ongoing site development, including roads, pads, grading, and related material-handling work.
- Load and unload trucks as needed.
- Enforce site safety rules, traffic patterns, dust-control procedures, and operating instructions.
- Monitor material quality and identify contamination, oversized material, or unsafe conditions.
- Teach less-experienced employees how to complete assigned tasks properly and safely.
- Work alongside other employees on general site work, including tasks outside the machine.
- Support general cleanup and basic maintenance tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Safe operating habits around trucks, conveyors, stockpiles, pedestrians, and other equipment.
- Ability to work second shift consistently.
- Ability to work independently and remain productive with limited supervision.
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather, dust, and agricultural site conditions.
- Physical ability to shovel material, lift at least 50 pounds, and climb on and off equipment at various machinery heights.
- Basic mechanical aptitude, experience inspecting equipment, and hands-on problem skills.
- Good communication skills, reliable attendance, and punctuality.
- Ability to pass a background check, drug test, and required site-clearance process.
Over-and-Above Qualifications
- Agricultural, ranching, biomass, composting, wood-recycling, aggregate, mining, or construction experience.
- Prior construction experience in underground utilities, grading, road building, or pad building.
- Experience operating grinders, screens, hoppers, or conveyor systems.
- Experience operating skid steers, forklifts, telehandlers, excavators, grapple-buckets, material handlers, dozers, cranes, auger trucks, trommels, or screens.
- Professional experience with daily equipment inspections, greasing, fueling, and maintenance reporting.
- Experience training or mentoring non-skilled or less-experienced employees.
Compensation
Competitive hourly wage based on experience. Starting wage $28–$33/hr plus overtime and benefits.

This position is located at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center / Stewart Conservation Camp Dairy Farm, where we engage in a unique program rehabilitating minimum-security inmates through a holistic work-experience education program. The environment is mostly outdoors and subject to dry, dusty, hot, wet, and cold conditions. Applicants must be comfortable working in these conditions and must not have any prior felony convictions, in accordance with state law.
