The Marketing and Communications Coordinator leads the marketing and communications activities of West Alabama Works-Workforce, telling the West Alabama Works story across print, digital, social, and media channels. The coordinator provides administrative support for workforce development staff, workforce development activities of the Chamber, and West Alabama Works meetings and projects, and coordinates specific projects as needed based on the West Alabama Works project flow. This position works in a fast-paced environment based on collaboration, communication, and results.

Responsibilities of the Position
- Compiles, edits, and distributes news and information, primarily through the monthly West AlabamaWorks eNewsletter.
- Updates and maintains the West AlabamaWorks! websites (westalabamaworks.com, worldsofwork.com) and program websites.
- Manages the social media presence for West AlabamaWorks and Worlds of Work (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok).
- Leads media relations: maintains a comprehensive database of media contacts, builds positive relationships with media outlets, writes and distributes press releases and media notifications, schedules and coordinates press conferences and media coverage at events, and participates in media interviews as needed.
- Coordinates all print, electronic, and media marketing for the Chamber’s workforce development activities, including the Worlds of Work regional career expo and regional hiring fairs.
- Publicizes the workforce training programs available through regional training providers and serves as a central point of contact for public and private entities seeking workforce training services.
- Coordinates and maintains all West AlabamaWorks informational documents and publications and prepares presentations for key leadership as needed.
- Coordinates photography and videography for workforce development activities and events.
- Supports Chamber leadership with executive communication (scripts, letters of support, emails) and supports Project Managers with meeting minutes, data, reports, and projects.
- Coordinates annual and monthly reporting.
- Ensures cohesive and consistent branding for West AlabamaWorks in alignment with organization guidelines.
- Assists with Chamber programs, events, and special projects as assigned; attends regular staff meetings; and performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graphic design proficiency — specifically Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign — plus video editing experience.
- Social media management, advertising, and marketing experience; website content management.
- An understanding of workforce and/or economic development is helpful but not required.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills — verbal and written.
- Adaptable to changing programs, workforce needs, and areas of focus.
- Self-starter who takes ownership of the work and drives it forward independently, working well with individuals across education, post-secondary, industry, and government.
- Technology is central to how we work: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and familiarity with storage management tools such as Dropbox are essential.
- Working knowledge of AI tools, with the ability and curiosity to keep learning and integrate them into our marketing and communications work.
- Must be able to work normal hours of 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; participation in some early morning and late evening meetings/events is also required. Occasional out-of-town travel may be required.

Accountability
Reports directly to Senior Director of Workforce and works directly with the Executive Vice President and CWO. Maintains a high ethical standard in dealing with information of a highly confidential nature and works cooperatively with all Chamber and WAW colleagues.
