12 Elements Consulting is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Compliance to lead and enhance the company's Compliance Management System (CMS) within the consumer lending industry. This leader will oversee compliance programs, regulatory risk management, audits, vendor oversight, and regulatory compliance initiatives while partnering across the organization to support responsible growth and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on compliance professional with deep knowledge of consumer financial regulations, strong leadership skills, and experience operating in a fast-paced fintech, lending, or regulated financial services environment.
Responsibilities
Compliance Leadership & Program Management
- Lead and maintain the company's Compliance Management System (CMS), including policies, procedures, monitoring, controls, and reporting.
- Develop and enhance compliance frameworks that support business objectives while mitigating regulatory risk.
- Ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, tribal, and internal regulatory requirements.
- Monitor regulatory developments and recommend necessary operational or policy changes.
Risk Management, Auditing & Monitoring
- Lead compliance monitoring, testing, audits, and risk assessments.
- Identify regulatory and operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Manage corrective action plans resulting from audits, examinations, complaints, or internal reviews.
- Prepare executive-level reporting on compliance risks, trends, findings, and remediation efforts.
- Support regulatory examinations, third-party reviews, and internal investigations.
Vendor & Third-Party Oversight
- Oversee compliance aspects of vendor onboarding and ongoing vendor management.
- Conduct due diligence reviews of service providers, marketing partners, lead generators, payment processors, and other third parties.
- Evaluate vendor controls, complaint trends, security practices, and compliance performance.
Marketing & Consumer Communications Review
- Review and approve marketing materials, websites, disclosures, scripts, SMS campaigns, email communications, and customer-facing content.
- Partner with marketing and operations teams to ensure advertising and customer acquisition practices meet regulatory requirements.
- Provide compliance guidance on product changes, operational workflows, and customer experience initiatives.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Leadership
- Collaborate with operations, legal, risk, technology, underwriting, fraud, and executive leadership to promote a strong culture of compliance.
- Advise stakeholders on compliance considerations related to strategic initiatives and business changes.
- Lead, mentor, and develop compliance team members.
- Support enterprise-wide compliance training and awareness programs.
Required
- 8+ years of compliance experience within consumer financial services, lending, fintech, banking, or another regulated industry.
- Experience managing compliance programs and regulatory risk within consumer lending environments.
- Strong knowledge of consumer financial regulations, including:
TILA / Regulation Z
ECOA / Regulation B
EFTA / Regulation E
FCRA
FDCPA
TCPA
UDAAP / UDAP
SCRA / MLA
GLBA and Safeguards Rule
- Experience conducting audits, compliance monitoring, risk assessments, and vendor oversight.
- Experience reviewing marketing and consumer communications for regulatory compliance.
- Proven leadership, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred
- Experience within fintech, online lending, tribal lending, or consumer finance organizations.
- Experience interacting with regulators, external auditors, and compliance consultants.
- Familiarity with complaint management, call monitoring, and compliance training programs.
- Industry certifications such as CRCM, CCEP, or similar credentials.
