Overview
Join our dynamic construction team as a Traffic Control Flagger and play a vital role in ensuring safety and smooth operations at active work sites. In this energetic position, you will manage traffic flow, guide vehicles and pedestrians, and support construction crews by maintaining a secure environment. Your proactive approach and attention to detail will help prevent accidents, facilitate efficient work progress, and uphold safety standards across busy construction zones.
Duties
- Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic around construction sites using clear hand signals, signs, and flags to ensure safety for workers and the public
- Monitor work zones continuously, adjusting traffic control measures as needed to accommodate changing site conditions
- Communicate effectively with construction crews, drivers, and pedestrians to provide clear instructions and updates
- Assist with setting up and removing traffic control devices such as cones, barriers, signs, and flagging stations
- Report any unsafe conditions or incidents immediately to site supervisors for prompt resolution
- Maintain safety protocols by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times during shifts
- Support other construction activities when necessary, including basic equipment operation such as dozer, loader, backhoe, or grader if certified or trained
Skills
- Strong understanding of traffic control procedures and safety regulations in construction zones
- Ability to clearly communicate signals to drivers and pedestrians using standardized flagging techniques
- Experience working on construction sites with knowledge of heavy equipment operation such as dozer, loader operation, backhoe operation, front loader trucks, dump trucks, or grader operation is a plus
- Familiarity with utility locating processes and basic construction site safety practices
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks in various weather conditions
- Attention to detail to identify potential hazards quickly and accurately
- Certification in flagging or traffic control preferred; experience with Caterpillar equipment or heavy machinery operation is advantageous
