JOB SUMMARY:
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) / Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Practicum Intern plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, culturally responsive psychiatric and behavioral health services under the supervision of licensed clinicians and nurse practitioners. This practicum opportunity provides hands-on learning experiences in outpatient and community-based settings, helping the intern develop advanced clinical competencies and practical knowledge required in the psychiatric mental health field.
The intern will actively participate in the intake, assessment, and treatment process for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing mental health and/or co-occurring disorders. Responsibilities include observing and supporting psychiatric evaluations, assisting in medication management sessions, contributing to documentation, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on treatment plans.
The intern will be exposed to community-based service delivery models, including in-home visits, care coordination, crisis support, and collaboration with families and other providers. Additionally, the intern will gain experience in understanding medical necessity, supporting client transitions between levels of care, and participating in quality assurance efforts such as audits and compliance monitoring.
This role is ideal for graduate students in psychiatric mental health nursing or clinical specialties who are seeking to apply academic knowledge in a real-world environment and build skills in assessment, psychopharmacology, therapeutic communication, cultural competency, and integrated care models.
