The Franklin County Auditor’s Office is seeking a Tax Accounting Specialist to join the Real Estate team.

What will you do?
Research taxpayer refunds to ensure compliance with the Ohio Revised Code. Tasks include verifying payment details, reviewing affidavits or proof of payments, locating new addresses for refunds on transferred properties, validating vendor information, researching voided/reissued checks, and investigating tender payments or returned checks. Use external agency resources as needed and escalate to the supervisor if necessary.
Perform tax adjustments for real estate and manufactured homes based on various determinations (e.g., BOR, BTA, exemptions, abatements, TIFs, forfeitures, etc.). Tasks include recalculating tax, penalty, and interest charges, and handling adjustments for split, vacated, platted parcels, and Form 57 requests.
Process refunds in MUNIS by generating reports, keying refund data, releasing batches, organizing reports, balancing available funds, submitting void requests, preparing spreadsheets for the Treasurer, and researching unclaimed checks.
Provide taxpayer support via walk-ins, emails, and phone calls. Address inquiries about taxes, special assessments, and annexations. Coordinate with other departments to improve efficiency, reduce duplicate work, and address backlogs.
Administer special assessments. Coordinate with political subdivisions, developers, and agencies to manage public improvements, nuisance abatements, and other ORC-permitted charges. Tasks include setting up assessment projects, inputting charges, balancing accounts, and providing accurate and timely reports to political subdivisions.
Who should apply?
Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or related field; two (2) or more years of related experience and/or training; or any combination of training, education, or experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
