Scope
The Project Superintendent shall oversee & manage construction projects on-site from start to finish. The ideal candidate will have a strong & proven background in on-site commercial construction management, excellent leadership skills, and a keen attention to detail. Management will hold the Project Superintendent to the highest safety standards. The Project Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring that projects are completed on-time, within budget, as specified, in compliance with all safety regulations, and that project goals and customer satisfaction have been met or exceeded. The Project Superintendent shall conduct himself in a professional manner that exemplifies South City Construction’s mission, vision, and core values.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise all construction activities on the jobsite
- Manage and direct subcontractors & construction crew members
- Monitor project progress/milestones; ensure adherence to project schedule; effectively communicate status
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure quality and compliance with specs/code
- Review and interpret construction drawings, schematics, and blueprints
- Collaborate with project managers to develop and maintain project budgets
- Possess thorough understanding of building construction and mechanical systems
- Understand job-specific contract requirements e.g., RFP & addendums, pre-bid RFI’s, plans/specs for each project assigned
- Understand & communicate job-specific scopes of work and other requirements of the subcontract agreements.
- Assist in the development of subcontract scopes
- Timely and effectively direct project pre-planning and startup.
- Actively participate in schedule development, coordination, monitoring, and updating
- Prepare/process timely RFI’s with clear and concise communication & backup documentation; Assist in the resolution of issues/conflicts that may arise during construction
- Review submittals for compliance & ensure they are tracking to meet the schedule requirements
- Ensure long lead items are identified, released, tracked, and delivered as required
- Maintain a high standard of safety and act as Site Safety and Health Officer on specified projects as assigned, and as part of regular duties
- Actively participate and ensure adherence to South City’s Environmental, Safety & Health Policies and Procedures
- Maintain a high standard of quality control and act as Quality Control Manager on specified projects as assigned, and as part of regular duties
- Manage Environmental, SWPPP, and other Governmental requirements
- See that good housekeeping practices are observed and maintained
- Maintain inventory control over project’s tools & equipment
- Construction administration duties associated with the position; Prepare comprehensive daily job reports and other required reports/lists in a timely fashion
- In coordination with the team, ensure that all scope changes and change orders are documented properly and implemented per company policies and procedures
- Manage project changes/drawing revisions, etc.
- Actively participate in all required project and in-house meetings.
- Review project progress with the Management and production staff on a regular basis
- Coordinate and maintain good relationships with inspectors, architects, subcontractors and other key stakeholders
- Utilize construction administrative software for assigned management duties
- Coordinate and ensure project close out & documentation e.g., final testing, commissioning, punch list, O&M’s, etc. are completed as required for timely final acceptance
The above duties are not meant to restrict initiative, but rather to define minimum activities. These duties may be altered to suit the needs of the Company. The ultimate goal is to manage construction projects from a technical and administrative field perspective.
Qualifications
- 10 years verifiable experience in the building industry as Project Superintendent (commercial, not residential)
- Experience successfully completing Pharmaceutical and Lab/Hospital projects is preferred
- Design-Assist and Design-Build experience is preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, P6/MS Project, Construction management software
- High School Graduate
- Ability to thoroughly understand and follow plans and specifications in the construction of a commercial project
- Thorough knowledge of full building codes & construction techniques, particularly MEP disciplines
- Leadership and communication skills necessary to lead the project team to success
- Foresight to predict problems before they develop
- A conscientious attitude towards controlling job costs and adhering to progress schedules
- Ability to communicate effectively though oral and written communications
- Current 30 Hour OSHA / CAL- OSHA Safety Certificate
- Undergo background check
- Must be flexible to meet project requirements

- Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time and perform some heavy lifting.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
