This isn't a typical associate position.
Burnham Douglass is looking for an experienced litigator to join and help grow its plaintiff-side Employment Law Section. The section is headed by Michelle Douglass, an employment lawyer with nearly four decades of litigation experience and an established practice handling significant employment matters, including complex and multi-plaintiff litigation.
We have the cases. We have experienced, dedicated support staff. We have the infrastructure. What we need is another really good lawyer.
We're looking for someone with at least 7 years of meaningful litigation experience who can take a deposition, argue a motion, walk into court prepared, dig into a complicated record and take ownership of a case rather than waiting to be told what to do next.
Employment-law experience is a plus, but it isn't necessarily required. We would rather have an excellent litigator who wants to become an excellent employment lawyer than someone who checks the right boxes on paper but doesn't love litigation.
This position can be more than a salary-and-benefits job. For the right lawyer, we are open to discussing performance/profit-based compensation and a longer-term opportunity to help build, lead and eventually play a major role in the future of the employment practice.
The practice represents employees in discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower and other significant employment litigation. Some matters are relatively straightforward. Others involve multiple plaintiffs, extensive discovery, depositions, experts, dispositive motions and substantial potential recoveries.
This probably isn't the right job for someone looking for a quiet 9-to-5 position.
It may be the right job for an experienced lawyer who has spent years helping build someone else's practice and is ready for an opportunity to have a meaningful stake in what comes next.
What we offer: competitive compensation commensurate with experience, health benefits, 401(k), experienced dedicated support staff, significant litigation responsibility, and the opportunity for performance/profit-based compensation.
We are also willing to consider an experienced attorney with an existing practice who may be interested in a co-counsel relationship rather than traditional employment.
