ABOUT US
Cornerstone is a boutique, fully remote accounting and advisory firm serving around 120 owner-led small businesses. We run a modern, technology-forward stack — QuickBooks Online, Double, Gusto, Notion, and AI woven throughout — so our team spends less time on data entry and more time actually advising clients. We're a small, close-knit team that values direct communication, does great work for people we genuinely like, and treats each other with respect. We're growing, and we're looking for someone experienced enough to step in, own client work, and grow with us.
THE ROLE
This is a full-cycle staff accountant role for someone who can already close a set of books and wants a shorter ramp into ownership. You'll manage your own portfolio of small-business clients — categorizing, reconciling, closing the books, and preparing financials — and grow into the client-facing, advisory side: walking owners through their numbers, cash forecasting, and helping them make better decisions. Because you come in with real experience, we expect you to learn our systems quickly and be running your own closes within your first several weeks, not months.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own full-cycle monthly close for a portfolio of clients in QuickBooks Online — categorization, bank/credit card/loan reconciliations, adjusting entries, and accurate financials
- Review the balance sheet and P&L for accuracy and catch what needs cleanup or a second look
- Prepare and deliver monthly financial recaps, and answer client questions directly
- Grow into advisory work — cash forecasting, financial reviews, and guiding owners on their numbers
- Follow our documented processes and SOPs, and communicate proactively — surface issues early and escalate when something's off
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Proven full-cycle experience — you can take a set of books from month-end to finished financials on your own
- Hands-on QuickBooks Online proficiency (not just Desktop) — you know the platform and work efficiently in it
- Solid fundamentals — debits and credits, the balance sheet, and how the financials tie together are second nature
- Client-facing ability — you can explain financials to a non-accountant clearly and build trusting relationships
- Strong, direct communicator who follows process, asks questions at the right time, and never goes silent when stuck
- Self-motivated and coachable, with a high standard for your own work
- Multi-client or firm/outsourced-accounting experience is a strong plus
- Comfortable working Eastern-time business hours (9–4 ET); Eastern or Central time zone preferred
