Duties:
- Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations to assess each patient’s communication abilities, functional needs, and, when applicable, feeding or swallowing skills.
- Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans based on evaluation findings, family priorities, and each child’s developmental needs.
- Provide engaging, play-based therapy for children with a variety of communication needs, including articulation, phonological, receptive and expressive language, social communication, fluency, and voice disorders.
- Collaborate with occupational therapists, physical therapists, caregivers, educators, physicians, and other professionals to coordinate care and establish meaningful, functional goals.
- Monitor patient progress, maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, and adjust treatment approaches and goals as needed.
- Educate and support parents and caregivers by providing practical strategies and home activities that encourage the development and carryover of communication skills.
- Participate in team meetings, care coordination, and ongoing communication with families and referring providers as appropriate.
- Maintain compliance with professional, ethical, payer, and organizational standards, including patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
- Stay current with evidence-based practices, emerging research, and advancements in pediatric speech-language pathology through continuing education and professional development.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
- Current Michigan Speech-Language Pathologist license or eligibility for state licensure.
- One to two years of pediatric speech-language pathology experience is preferred, particularly in an outpatient, school, early intervention, or multidisciplinary setting.
- Experience assessing and treating pediatric communication disorders, including articulation, phonological, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice, and social communication needs.
- Strong understanding of pediatric development, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to speech, language, feeding, and swallowing.
- Ability to complete comprehensive evaluations, interpret findings, establish functional goals, and develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills when working with children, families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to build positive therapeutic relationships and provide engaging, child-centered, play-based treatment.
- Strong clinical reasoning, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.
- Commitment to maintaining accurate documentation, patient confidentiality, professional ethics, and continuing education requirements.
