Position Summary:
The Director of Children & Family Ministry provides operational leadership, coordination, and administrative execution for the children’s ministry (birth through fifth grade) at Church of the Good Shepherd. This role focuses on implementing age-appropriate discipleship environments on Sunday mornings and during designated mid-week programming, while equipping parents to foster spiritual formation at home.

Duties and Responsibilities:
● Program Direction & Spiritual Formation
○ Design, implement, manage, evaluate and communicate programming for children to help them understand the foundations of the Christian faith before transitioning into youth ministry.
○ Collaborate with the pastoral staff to implement church-approved, ideologically aligned curriculum for Sunday School and mid-week environments, managing the ordering and distribution of these materials for teaching teams.
○ Meet with the Lead Pastor to implement the vision and goals for the children's Christian education program.
○ Maintain a collaborative relationship with the Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministries to build an intentional transition pathway for students entering the youth ministry.
○ Provide leadership, vision, and direction to volunteer teams and paid childcare workers committed to shepherding children from birth through grade five, guided by the established focus points.
● Volunteer & Childcare Staff Supervision
○ Recruit, train, onboard, schedule, and supervise an adequate number of volunteers and paid childcare workers to ensure safety compliance, excellent classroom ratios, and clean, visually engaging environments across Sunday mornings, special church-wide events, and the Wednesday evening Celebrate Recovery program.
● Operations, Safety, & Administration
○ Oversee the strict implementation of the church’s Safe Sanctuaries policy relative to all church staff and volunteers.
○ Oversee the administration of children’s ministry data, ensuring accurate student registration, attendance tracking, and database maintenance.
○ Provide timely, accurate event details and program information to the Administrative Assistant for distribution across the church's digital platforms, bulletins, and communication channels.
○ Leverage social media to resource parents, share ministry highlights, promote activities, connect with families, and drive engagement.
○ Manage the Children & Family Ministry budget; reconcile monthly credit card statements and submit expense reports as required.
○ Available to the congregation through regularly scheduled office hours.
○ Participate in staff meetings, attend church meetings as directed by the Lead Pastor, and perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the church.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in ministry, education, or a related field
● Valid PA driver’s license
● Background checks and child abuse clearances as outlined in the Safe Sanctuary policy
Accountability: This position is accountable directly to the Lead Pastor and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC).
Job Evaluation and Provisions:
● This is a year-round, part-time position structured at up to twenty-five (25) hours per week.
● Upon employment, the first three months are considered probationary.
● Salary and performance will be reviewed by the SPRC on an annual basis.
● Vacation must be approved in advance by the Lead Pastor.
● Absence due to illness or emergency is to be brought to the Lead Pastor’s attention immediately.
● Any difficulties or challenges are to be brought to the Lead Pastor’s attention for assistance; triumphs and accomplishments are to be shared with the Lead Pastor and fellow staff for celebration.
● Termination of employment may be initiated by the employer or employee at any time. A sixty (60) days written notice is preferred but two (2) weeks is required. With sufficient cause, failure to adhere to the responsibilities outlined may result in immediate termination.
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
