DIRECTOR OF SAFETY

Concord Utility Services is a nationwide Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) installation company based in Murrieta, CA, with nearly 20 years in business. We specialize in AMI Meter Installations, Grid Modernization and Field Maintenance for Electric, Water and Gas Utilities. POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Safety will build and lead Concord's safety function from the ground up, establishing standardized programs across our water, electric, and gas installation work. This is a senior, executive-level role reporting directly to the VP of Operations, with responsibility for protecting a distributed, multi-state field workforce and serving as Concord's safety voice in client and prime contractor relationships.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the strategic development and scaling of Concord's Safety organization, building a standardized national safety management system supporting Electric, Water, Gas AMI installations, Grid Modernization, and all service lines.

Design and oversee Concord's enterprise-wide safety training and competency program, including onboarding, field qualification, instructor-led training, Operator Qualification (OQ), and ongoing compliance education.

Establish governance for all safety programs, policies, SOPs, JHAs, training materials, and compliance documentation, ensuring standardization, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance.

Develop and drive a field leadership accountability model that equips supervisors and managers to consistently reinforce safe work practices and strengthen Concord's safety culture across all operations.

Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce TRIR, DART, and overall operational risk.

Serve as Concord's senior safety representative with clients, utility partners, regulatory agencies, and third-party stakeholders while partnering with Operations and executive leadership to embed safety into business performance.

Travel regularly to project sites nationwide to coach leaders, assess field performance, ensure compliance, and support safe, consistent operational execution.
EXPERIENCE

10+ years of progressive safety leadership experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a Director or Senior Manager role.

Utility construction or field services background required, with electric distribution/transmission or AMI/metering experience strongly preferred as the primary focus.

Water and/or gas utility safety experience is a plus.

Experience managing safety programs for a distributed, multi-state W2 field workforce (not a subcontractor-based model).

Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA 1910/1926, DOT regulations, and electric utility-specific standards (NESC, OSHA 1910.269).

A track record of building or scaling a safety department or program, not solely maintaining an existing one.

Experience with incident investigation, TRIR/DART reduction, and safety culture transformation.

Prior experience supporting national, multi-region field operations, including frequent travel to remote crews and job sites.
LOCATION & TRAVEL
This position is remote and open to candidates based anywhere in the United States. Regular travel (approximately 40–50%) is required to support field personnel and active project sites across the country.
EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety, or a related field.

Master's degree a plus.

An equivalent combination of experience and professional certifications may substitute for a degree.
