II. QUALIFICATIONS
A. A bachelor’s degree in an applicable subject area
B. One year of professional experience related to library service, youth or adult education
and programming
C. Ability to work cooperatively and tactfully with staff and the public
D. Ability to work independently - taking initiative, using time efficiently, troubleshooting
and resolving problems thoughtfully
E. Reference and technology skills, with proficiency in internet and online database
searching
F. Must be flexible with schedule and work location, willing to cover coworker vacations
and outreach events as needed, especially in the evening and on weekends
G. Ability to meet physical and environmental demands of the position – sitting for long
periods of time; moving mobile book shelves, shifting books, lifting and moving boxes of
books weighing up to 40 pounds; physical mobility to reach all shelving
H. Must maintain a professional appearance on the job
III. JOB SUMMARY
The Outreach Technician is responsible for providing assistance with circulation,
information, outreach, and programming. The ideal candidate will serve as an exemplary
representative of the library to creatively and effectively promote the library’s mission and
services.
IV. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Provides excellent customer service, including reference, reader’s advisory, technology
assistance
B. Plans and implements engaging programs for children, families, older adults
C. Performs circulation duties at service desk (check-out / check-in of materials, register
patrons for library cards, resolve patron issues)
D. Accurately shelves library materials, paying attention to detail and aesthetic quality
E. Stays informed of and promotes library services and programs
F. Reads and reviews new materials
G. Keeps current with trends in library science, programming, and outreach
H. Participates in the overall neatness of the library by performing light tidying tasks
I. Other duties as assigned by supervisor
