Things to Know:
- This is a full-time volunteer position. You will be provided housing in a fully-furnished apartment on campus (all utilities included!) and a one time allowance to be used for moving expenses. This position includes full health insurance and PTO (Paid Time Off). After a year of service, you will also be eligible for an Education Award which can be used for student loans or future education expenses.
- AmeriCorps requires that you are a United States citizen, a national, or a legal permanent resident.
- The position begins immediately
- The position requires a valid driver's license.
Objectives:
- Cultivate workplace skills, including time management, self-regulation, prioritization
- Develop leadership skills, including public speaking and confidence
- Learn and implement best teaching practices when lesson planning and developing curriculum
- Provide small group instruction and one-on-one student support/intervention
Duties:
- Classroom assistance, involving individual student support within the lesson/period, behavior monitoring, student organization and self-tracking, grading, lesson preparation
- Support food service
- Opening and closing the facilities
- Field trip chaperones
- Arrival and dismissal student supervision
- Hallway transition monitoring
- One on one student mentoring
- Classroom coverage
- Creation and implementation of non-academic enrichment courses in the second semester
- Collaborate with educational professionals
- Attend all NDMVA member meetings
Timeline:
- Week-long training prior to the start of the school year in August
- Ongoing, integrated school year-long book study
- Weekly meetings that include training topic of focus for the week throughout the year
- Regular classroom observations in the first semester
- Daily classroom assistance and student pull outs throughout the year
- Daily administrative duties
