Overview
We're looking for an experienced Residential Standby Generator Service Technician to join our team on a part-time, as-needed basis. This position is ideal for an experienced generator technician looking to supplement their current income or someone seeking flexible work.
This is not an entry-level position. We are seeking a technician with proven experience servicing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing automatic residential standby generators that restore power during utility outages.
When homeowners lose power, they depend on their generator to start automatically. Your role will be to diagnose why a system failed to operate, perform the necessary repairs, complete preventive maintenance, and ensure the generator is ready for the next outage.

Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled maintenance on residential standby generators.
- Diagnose and repair generators that fail to start or operate during utility power outages.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, engine, fuel, battery charging, and control system issues.
- Test and verify proper operation of automatic transfer switches (ATS), controllers, batteries, and safety systems.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and manufacturer service manuals.
- Replace defective components and verify proper operation after repairs.
- Explain findings and recommended repairs professionally to homeowners.
- Complete accurate service reports and documentation.
- Follow all safety procedures while working in residential environments.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience servicing and troubleshooting residential standby generators.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose generators that fail to start automatically during power outages.
- Strong knowledge of residential electrical systems and generator controls.
- Experience with brands such as Generac, Kohler, Cummins, Briggs & Stratton, or similar.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and use diagnostic equipment.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred
- Factory training or manufacturer certifications.
- Electrical license or additional technical certifications.
- Experience performing warranty repairs.
