We are one of the largest and best rated landscaping & snow removal companies in Illinois. We are currently members of BOMA/Suburban, BOMA/Chicago, Landscape Illinois, IREM, SIMA, MPBHBA, & Chief Engineer.
The Diesel Mechanic will report to the Equipment Manager. This position will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing company trucks, snow equipment, trailers, and other fleet vehicles. This position plays an important role in keeping our operations running safely throughout the year.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy duty trucks, diesel vehicles, trailers, and fleet equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance including oil changes, brake repairs, suspension work, tire service, fluid checks, and general inspections.
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, air brake systems, drivetrain components, and related vehicle systems.
- Maintain and repair snow removal equipment including plows, salt spreaders, salters, and related attachments.
- Prepare trucks and equipment for seasonal landscaping and snow removal operations.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and complete repairs in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Perform DOT-related inspections and ensure vehicles are operating safely and within compliance.
- Keep accurate records of repairs, maintenance, parts used, and service history.
- Communicate needed repairs, safety concerns, and equipment status to management.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Assist with emergency repairs during snow events or peak operating seasons as needed.
- Work with vendors or outside repair shops when necessary for parts, specialty repairs, or warranty work.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a heavy duty truck mechanic.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, heavy duty trucks, trailers, hydraulics, electrical systems, and brake systems.
- Experience working on snow removal trucks, plows, salt spreaders, and landscape/construction equipment preferred.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and complete repairs efficiently.
- Must have own basic tools.
- Ability to read repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and service information.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits:
- $50,000 - $80,000
- 401(k) Plan (enrollment available after 6 months and 1,000 hours of employment)
