Eco-Cycle, one of the oldest and largest nonprofit recyclers in the country and a pioneer in the Zero Waste movement, seeks a Class B Driver to provide safe, reliable route execution and customer service support across recycling, compost, hard-to-recycle (HTR) materials, and other collection operations throughout Boulder County and the Front Range. This role supports Eco-Cycle’s mission of advancing Zero Waste by operating commercial collection vehicles safely, completing routes consistently, communicating professionally with customers and staff, and ensuring accurate documentation of materials collected.

Position Description
Eco-Cycle’s Class B Drivers operate rear-load, front-load, roll-off, box truck, or EV trucks depending on assignment and may rotate across routes and service lines as operational needs require. This position completes assigned collection work safely and efficiently while representing Eco-Cycle professionally with customers, site contacts, vendors, and the public.
Specific Responsibilities
Safe Vehicle Operation
- Operate Class B commercial vehicles including rear-load, front-load, roll-off, or box trucks.
- Conduct daily pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections in accordance with DOT and Eco-Cycle standards.
- Report mechanical problems immediately and complete required repair request forms.
- Comply with all DOT regulations, company policies, and safety protocols.
- Operate EV trucks (if assigned) and follow EV charging and reporting procedures.
Route Execution & Material Collection
- Perform scheduled collection of recycling, compost, and HTR materials from residential, commercial, and municipal sites.
- Follow route sheets, GPS, or supervisor instructions to complete daily assignments.
- Record weights, container counts, and service exceptions accurately.
- Communicate any route delays, hazards, or missed stops promptly.
Customer Service & Community Interaction
- Provide courteous, professional service to customers, site managers, and the public.
- Represent Eco-Cycle’s mission and values in all interactions.
- Use proper judgment when addressing overflowing materials, contamination, or access issues.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, DOT, and Eco-Cycle policies.
- Follow all accident/incident reporting protocols.
- Wear all required PPE.
- Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and equipment operation refreshers.
Equipment Care & Facility Responsibilities
- Properly secure loads and ensure containers are safely handled.
- Maintain cab cleanliness and respect Eco-Cycle property.
- Assist with yard organization, container staging, and equipment checks as needed.
- For EV units: log charging sessions, report kWh usage, and maintain key fob assignment.
Qualifications & Competencies
Required:
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement.
- Clean MVR and ability to pass DOT physical and drug screening.
- Minimum 1 year of experience operating heavy trucks (rear-load, front-load, roll-off, box truck, or similar).
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in all weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of truck mechanics and safe vehicle operation

Preferred:
- Experience in recycling, waste hauling, or municipal collection.
- Previous experience with roll-off trucks or rear-load operation.
- EV truck operation or willingness to be trained.
- Familiarity with Boulder County geography.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Exposure to outdoor weather, traffic, noise, and heavy equipment.
- Repetitive lifting, pushing, and pulling containers.
- Extended driving periods with frequent stops.
- Must safely navigate tight alleys, commercial lots, and residential zones.
- Must be able to work independently in the field and make safe, practical decisions when direct supervision is not on-site.

Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
