Position Title: Teaching Assistant
Reports To: Principal
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM

Job Summary:
Seeking a caring, energetic, and dependable individual to serve as a part-time Preschool Teaching Assistant and Recess Support Staff member. From 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, the assistant will work closely with the lead teacher in the Preschool Age 4 classroom, supporting instruction, supervising activities, and helping to foster a nurturing, developmentally appropriate learning environment.
From 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, the role transitions to supporting recess supervision for Kindergarten through 5th grade students. The assistant will ensure student safety, encourage positive social interactions, and help maintain order during outdoor and indoor recess periods.
This dual-role position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young children and elementary-aged students and is committed to supporting a positive, safe, and faith-filled school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- reschool Age 4 Classroom Support (8:30 AM – 11:30 AM):
- Assist the lead teacher with classroom activities and lessons.
K–5 Recess Support (11:30 AM – 1:30 PM):
- Supervise students during indoor and outdoor recess.
- Promote inclusive, safe, and respectful play among students.
- Help with conflict resolution and reinforce positive behavior expectations.
- Monitor the playground and indoor areas to ensure safety and proper use of equipment.
- Assist with student transitions between classroom and recess/lunch areas as needed.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with young children in an educational or childcare setting preferred.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine love for working with children.
- Ability to supervise groups of children in both classroom and outdoor settings.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow school policies and procedures.
- Must meet Diocesan Safe Environment and background check requirements.
- Help set up and clean up instructional and play materials.
- Supervise students during indoor and outdoor play.
- Support students with routines such as bathroom breaks, hand washing, and snack time.
- Provide a safe, caring, and structured environment for all children.
- Model and reinforce positive behavior and age-appropriate social skills.
Ideal Candidate Will:
- Experience: Have prior experience in direct care of preschool and school-age children.
- Skills: Work well in a fast-paced environment with many students, staff, and parents.
- Availability: Be available for the scheduled hours of Monday - Friday, 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain a calm, positive demeanor under pressure.
- Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all children.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
