Job Summary
The Architectural Product Manager is responsible for leading the architectural drafting and documentation processes for a Luxury home builder. This includes managing master drawing libraries, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of construction documents prior to design center appointments, reviewing and approving truss drawings, and supervising a team of draftsmen to maintain quality, compliance, and efficiency. The role bridges Sales, Design, and Field/Construction by preventing errors in marketing collateral and jobstarts while supporting scalable production home delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the management and maintenance of master drawing plan libraries and architectural standards for all product lines, ensuring updates reflect current building codes, cost-effective construction methods, and company specifications.
- Coordinate with Design Center and Sales teams to review customer selections (e.g.: elevations, structural options, etc.) and ensure accurate translation into a buildable set of plans.
- Ensure accurate and complete jobstarts by verifying that all architectural drawings, specifications, and supporting documents are finalized and issued to construction teams minimizing field changes and delays.
- Review, approve, and manage truss drawings and layouts (in collaboration with third-party truss manufacturers), ensuring required bearing points and footings are captured within lot-specific construction drawings.
- Lead and supervise a small team of designers/drafters, including prioritizing and assigning tasks, providing technical guidance, conducting performance reviews, and fostering professional development in CAD/BIM software and production drafting best practices.
- Implement and enforce quality control processes for architectural drawings to ensure accuracy, consistency, completeness, and constructability.
- Collaborate with third-party engineers, Permit Coordinator, Purchasing/Estimating, and Construction teams to resolve design issues, value engineer options, and incorporate feedback from the field.
- Stay current with building codes, zoning regulations, energy standards, and industry trends relevant to production residential construction.
- Manage department workflows, timelines, and priorities to support company production schedules and new community rollouts.
- Assist in the development or revision of master plans, options catalogs, and architectural details to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
