This is an
OPEN recruitment to establish an eligibility list and fill a vacancy. The eligibility list will be used to fill permanent vacancies which may occur during the life of the eligibility list.
Positions in this classification are part-time, 18 hours per week, 11 months/184 work days per year.
The recruitment process will consist of a oral technical interview, which is tentatively scheduled during the weeks of July 6 - 20, 2026. Qualified applicants will be notified by email.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an administrator, the Child Care Assistant will assist in the care, supervision and guidance of children in the playroom and on the playground.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Assist in the care and guidance of children while their parents attend adult school classes. E
Prepare playroom for children. E
Set out toys and monitor playroom activities. E
Oversee children while at play, providing the stimulation of toys, games, music, arts, crafts and other activities; oversee rest periods. E
Organize and oversee students in playground activities. E
Ensure that children wash their hands after using the restroom facilities. E
Maintain daily sign in/sign out log. E
Maintain safe play conditions. E
Alert teacher and parents in emergency situations as appropriate. E
Maintain playroom in a safe, clean and orderly condition. E
Assist children in reaching drinking fountain as needed. E
Must demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required. E
Attend meetings and workshops as assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Note: At the end of some of the duty statements there is an "E" which identifies essential duties required of the classification. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Any combination equivalent to: sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above and some experience in the care of children in an organized setting. Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish preferred.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Some positions in this class may be required to utilize a second designated language. Must have or obtain within six months of employment valid CPR and/or American Red Cross First Aid Certificate, as well as meeting requirements to keep certificate(s) current.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Seeing to monitor student behavior during playroom activities; hearing and speaking to provide assistance and information related to playroom assignments; kneeling and crouching to assist children; active participation in games and related physical development activities with children; and lifting children up to 5 years old to assist them in reaching the drinking fountain.
