Job Description
Discovery Academy of Science is seeking an enthusiastic and engaging 6th Grade Science Teacher to join our team. This position will primarily teach 6th grade science while also providing support for 5th grade science.
As a STEM-focused K–8 charter school, Discovery Academy of Science is committed to providing students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and a strong understanding of scientific concepts.
We are looking for an educator who is passionate about science and can create an interactive classroom environment where students are encouraged to explore, investigate, ask questions, and make connections between science and the world around them.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned science instruction primarily for 6th grade students.
- Provide instruction for a 5th grade science class for part of the year.
- Incorporate hands-on experiments, investigations, projects, and STEM-based learning opportunities into instruction.
- Create a positive, structured, and engaging classroom environment that supports student learning.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of a diverse group of learners.
- Use student assessment data to monitor progress and adjust instruction as needed.
- Collaborate with grade-level teachers, the science department, curriculum administrators, and school leadership.
- Participate in grade-level and department meetings, professional development, and school activities.
- Support school-wide STEM initiatives, events, projects, and academic competitions as needed.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administration.
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, and documentation.
- Demonstrate professionalism and support the mission and values of Discovery Academy of Science.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Florida teaching certification or eligibility for certification is required.
- Candidates must hold or be eligible for an appropriate K–6 certification or Science certification.
- Previous teaching experience is preferred.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Ability to create engaging, hands-on science lessons and learning experiences.
- Comfortable incorporating educational technology into instruction.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Collaborative, dependable, and committed to student success.
- A creative and innovative approach to teaching science and STEM concepts is highly valued.

Pay: $59,149.00 - $73,740.00 per year
