Surgical Technicians – Killeen, TX – Ft. Cavazos
We are currently seeking certified civilian surgical technicians to join our team to provide full-time services to the service members at Ft. Cavazos, TX. This is a full-time position with benefits to include Insurance, PTO, Paid Federal Holidays, Paid Sick Leave, 401(k), weekly pay and more.
Surgical Technology Core Duties:
- Perform the full spectrum of sterile techniques, setting up surgical trays, preparing and draping patients for surgery, and assisting with post-operative dressings.
- Assist with the setup of robotics procedures.
- Assist in large orthopedic cases such as total knee replacements, total hip replacements, and spinal surgeries.
- Ensure surgical packs are cleaned and packed for sterilization after every procedure, to include restocking surgical supplies.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment for the patient either by active participation in the cleaning of clinical spaces, operating rooms, and medical equipment, or by guiding other personnel in the environmental maintenance.
- Assist in performance of circulating duties under direction of a registered nurse.
- Transport patient to and from nursing unit.
- Take specimens to/from laboratory.
- Obtain blood products from the blood bank and deliver to operating room.
- Recognize and initiate appropriate nursing measure in emergency situations.
- Restock supplies and rotate dated supplies.
- Assist in assessing patient and planning appropriate nursing care.
- Document care given in patient’s medical record.
- Communicate pertinent patient data to charge nurse and/or physician as appropriate.
- Assist in reassessing patient’s condition and revising plan of care based on identified nursing problems.
- Under medical direction, operate a defibrillator and cardiac monitor.
- Assist in care of patients with Swan-Ganz catheter, arterial lines, and mechanical ventilators.
- Initiate life saving measures in the absence of a physician.
- Perform scrub duties in all specialties, including emergency and robotic surgeries.
- Prepare equipment and supplies in a safe manner following surgical procedures.
- Return equipment to proper location.
- Process instruments in a manner for reuse.
- Initiate, perform, and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations.
- Anticipate needs of next day’s assignment and prepare necessary supplies and equipment.
- Transports patients using wheelchairs, stretchers and/or walking ambulatory patients to receive
procedures, tests, and/or x-rays, or to other wards.
- Coordinate with profession staff prior to and after transporting patients.
- Monitors oxygen delivery system and notifies professional staff if there is a problem with system
during transport of patients on oxygen.
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with patients and other staff.
- Uses VOIP communication device or other prescribed communication device.
- Maintain correct body alignment of patients during transport.
- Utilizes correct body mechanics during patient movement.
- Specific tasks and duties are based off patient care workload and the Governments mission.
PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
Degree: Certificate.
- Education: Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program approved by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or completion of a formal training program provided by an branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) for surgical technicians, surgical technician or operating room technicians.
- Certification: Certified as a Surgical Technologist/Technician (CST) from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or certified as a Tech-In-Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician
- Experience: Within the last two (2) years, prior to contract execution, one (1) year of scrubbing experience as a Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician after graduation in one of the following surgical services (combination of more than one): general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, or genitourinary. Experience in robotics and large orthopedic cases is required. One (1) year of scrubbing experience must be equivalent to the work of 40-hours a week for 52-weeks. Part-time experience is acceptable but must equal one (1) year of consolidated experience. Time in school/training does not count towards the required 1 year of experience.

Pay: $30.50 - $35.50 per hour
