Job Summary
Monitors and audits manufacturing processes to ensure that pre-determined quality objectives are being met in an ISO 9001:2015 metal fabrication environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assures that components in the manufacturing process conform to customer supplied or in-house engineering drawings and /or specifications.
- Uses typical Quality Assurance tools to inspect components during the manufacturing process
- Make sure that all manufacturing processes adhere to ISO 9001:2015 and internal/customer procedures and work instructions and specifications.
- Uses knowledge of print reading and weld symbol recognition to assure that products are being fabricated /assembled correctly.
- Initiate and monitor the progress of IRR’s.
- Confers with department leaders to solve quality related issues and changes in production or engineering methods.
- Inspects and records information on in process inspections and first article inspections
- Perform internal quality systems and process audits.
- Gathers and records inspection data
- Maintains paperwork, computer logs and other required documentation
- Supports operations and engineering personnel by quickly resolving quality related issues.
- Ad-hoc projects as needed
- Knows and complies with all personal, machine and facility safety practices and regulations; understands and follows all company workplace rules and regulations.
- Essential Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 0 – 50 pounds frequently; 50 – 75 pounds occasionally; over 75 pounds rarely.
- Must be able to routinely stand, sit, stoop, twist, and bend throughout a standard shift.
- Must have excellent manual dexterity and a level of ambidexterity.
- Visual acuity (corrected) required for reading written material, work orders, schedules, etc.
Skills and Abilities
- Complete knowledge of complex multi-level blueprint interpretation and weld symbol recognition is critical.
- Experience performing weld inspections in accordance with applicable codes and standards; CWI certification strongly preferred and given priority consideration.
- Must be comfortable working in a shop environment.
- Must be able to follow both written and verbal instruction; must be computer literate.
- Good communication skills are essential; must be able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Must have at least a basic knowledge of materials such as carbon steels, aluminum, stainless steels and be able to identify each.
- Some machine tool knowledge or experience helpful.
- Ability to work independently with occasional supervisory oversight.
- Knowledge of PC-DMIS software and experience using Hexagon Romer Arm CMMs preferred.
- Understanding of ISO 9001:2015 is beneficial.
- Full knowledge and skill set with all QA measurement tools.
- Must have the ability to organize and file appropriate paperwork upon completion of tasks.
- Must have an in-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
Education and Experience Required
- Five years in quality assurance field, preferred.
- Two years of weld inspection, required.
- Two or more years’ experience in fabrication and machining industry with knowledge of production flow required.
- Minimum of two years of college or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
