Established in 1989, the Outdoor Education program at YMCA Camp Grady Spruce is devoted to helping teachers educate students about the interrelationship and interdependence between man and the environment. The OE Program operates during the school year and is primarily focused on the curriculum of 4th- 6th grade students. We offer outdoor education experiences ranging from one to five days in length. The information is taught utilizing the staff’s expertise and has been carefully aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Students learn responsibility and develop an appreciation of diversity in nature.

Located on Possum Kingdom Lake, Camp Grady Spruce established its Outdoor Education program in 1989. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Outdoor Education, you will have to opportunity to instruct students in a variety of classes including leadership development, conservation, and outdoor living skills.
Compensation: $400- $425 per week (paid every two weeks in keeping with the payroll schedules of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas), with room and board provided.
Job Status: Seasonal (August 31, 2026 - May 31, 2027)
General Function: Under the direction of the OE Director, the naturalist delivers the outdoor education program to student participants and adult leaders in accordance with the purposes and policies of the Association, and according to the guidelines established by the Outdoor Education Director. Naturalist will lead programs such as climbing wall, swim time, canoeing, educational classes, ziplining and more.
Living at YMCA Camp Grady Spruce:
Camp Grady Spruce is located about 100 miles west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex on 535 acres on beautiful Possum Kingdom Lake. PK Lake is one of the clearest lakes in Texas and is known for its dramatic cliffs and beautiful, rolling hillsides. Common outdoor activities include boating, diving, swimming, fishing, and hiking. Camp is home to an abundance of wildlife, and it is common to see white-tailed deer, bobcats, and roadrunners along the trails.
Staff will live in provided on-site housing, with a private or shared room. Lodging includes bathrooms, a living room and a kitchen. Rooms are all equipped with a closet, twin XL bed and a dresser.

Remain flexible and able to adjust to changes quickly

Must possess a valid Driver’s License of form of ID

Must be a citizen of the United States or have a preexisting work visa

Willing to obtain Lifeguard certification upon hire
