Seeking classroom assistant for primary Montessori classroom. 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The assistant in a Montessori classroom plays a supportive role that is crucial to the learning environment. This position involves working closely with the lead teacher to create a stimulating environment that encourages independence, curiosity, and a love of learning. An assistant is necessary to ensure that procedures are followed so that children can move through the classroom independently, leaving the lead teacher available to give lessons and focus on instruction.
The assistant needs to work proactively and be physically fit enough to keep up with the children as well as being able to move efficiently in the classroom, including sitting on the floor and lifting/carrying children. Experience in the Montessori environment is highly valued but not a requirement. The assistant must model slow and careful movement and a soft voice while children are present. Pay commensurate with experience.
Duties will include:
- Overseeing practical life area of the classroom
- Giving lessons to the children as requested by the lead teacher
- Giving friendly reminders and guidance in tasks such as pushing in chairs, washing hands, moving gracefully, returning work to the shelves beautifully
- Assisting children with daily chores
- Monitor the children while on the playground
- Maintain cleanliness of classroom and bathrooms as needed
TB skin test, CAN check, CPR/First Aid training, continued education, fingerprinting, and orientation/head trauma training reimbursed by the school.
Pay: $15.00 per hour
