Journeyman Service Electrician
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Journeyman Service Electrician to join our team. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and installing commercial and industrial electrical systems while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). The ideal candidate is a self-motivated electrician with strong diagnostic skills, excellent customer service, and experience working on lighting systems, electrical controls, and service work.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair indoor and outdoor electrical systems.
- Service and maintain:
- Electrical panels
- Ballasts
- Resistors
- General interior and exterior lighting
- Parking lot pole lights
- Building wall packs
- Flood lights
- Motor controls
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Install new electrical systems, including:
- Conduit (EMT, rigid, etc.)
- Wiring
- Device terminations
- Lighting controls
- Perform preventative maintenance and electrical repairs in accordance with NEC and local electrical codes.
- Verify proper operation and safety of all electrical and lighting systems.
- Respond promptly to scheduled and emergency service calls.
- Safely operate boom lifts for elevated lighting and electrical maintenance.
- Occasionally drive company boom trucks to and from customer job sites.
- Monitor inventory levels and notify management of materials and equipment needed to complete daily work.
- Complete assigned work orders accurately and within scheduled timeframes.
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding repairs, materials, scheduling, and project status.
- Utilize company-issued smartphone or tablet to:
- Receive dispatches
- Update appointment status
- Record notes
- Upload photos
- Complete work orders
- Submit required documentation
- Follow all company safety policies as well as OSHA and DOT regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
Required Qualifications
- California State Journeyman Electrician Certification (Required or currently in the process of obtaining)
- Minimum 3 years of commercial and industrial electrical experience
- Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Experience troubleshooting and servicing electrical systems up to 480 volts
- Experience with:
- HID Lighting
- LED Lighting
- Compact Fluorescent
- Linear Fluorescent
- High Pressure Sodium (HPS)
- Low Pressure (LP) Lighting Systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints and schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Professional communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency using mobile devices and work order management applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Boom Lift Certification
- Boom Truck Operation Experience
- CDL Class B License with Air Brake Endorsement (Preferred)
- Experience with lighting controls and energy-efficient lighting systems.
License & Certification Requirements
- California State Journeyman Electrician License (or actively obtaining)
- Valid California Driver's License (Class C minimum)
- Clean driving record
- Ability to pass a background check
- Ability to pass a drug screening
- Boom Lift Certification (company assistance available if needed)
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and stoop throughout the workday
- Work from ladders, scaffolds, and aerial lifts at various heights
- Sit for extended periods while operating company vehicles
- Wear required company uniforms and PPE at all times
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Pay: $32.00 - $40.00 per hour
