Head Coach – Swimming and Diving
Pay Range
$5,175.00 stipend
As the Head Coach, you will develop, enhance, and promote an athletic program distinguished by integrity, citizenship, character, work ethic, and the ability to overcome adversity. You will instruct student-athletes in respectful conduct toward themselves, opponents, and officials regardless of competition outcomes.
Qualifications
- Experience as a player and/or coach preferred
- Knowledge of strategies, methods, and techniques for a successful swimming and diving program
- Ability to manage all aspects of a sport program
- Maine Coaches certification required or in progress
- Employment in the Kennebunk School Department preferred
Reports To: Director of Athletics
Responsibilities
Student-Centered
- Supervise student-athletes in the program
- Ensure athletes are prepared for competition through structured planning and practice
- Supervise and manage off-season development programs
- Serve as a role model for students
- Hold organizational meetings for prospective athletes and encourage participation
- Assess player skills and assign positions appropriately
- Develop and manage practice schedules for individual and team development
- Coordinate facility scheduling with the athletic director
- Assign duties to assistant coaches as needed
- Instruct athletes individually and in groups on rules, techniques, and strategies
- Observe athletes during practice and competition to identify improvement needs
- Determine game strategy based on team capabilities
- Establish and maintain standards of behavior and supervision
- Monitor academic eligibility of student-athletes
- Follow procedures in the event of injury
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding athlete performance as needed
- Follow all district, regional, and state athletic regulations
- Promote sportsmanship and appropriate conduct toward officials and spectators
- Represent the program to media and community organizations
- Maintain equipment, uniforms, and supply inventory
- Develop awards policy and submit end-of-season recognition lists
- Maintain eligibility, medical, insurance, and inventory records
- Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities
Leadership
- Assist in hiring and evaluation of coaching staff
- Promote departmental philosophy and goals
- Coordinate with athletic staff and medical personnel for safety and emergency preparedness
- Enforce district athletic codes
- Maintain records of equipment and uniforms
- Prepare reports for the Director of Athletics as requested
- Supervise assistant coaches and program operations
- Perform additional duties as assigned by administration

Terms of Employment
As per contract. Salary to be established by the Board.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated by the building administrator or team leader in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of support services personnel.
