Mold Remediation Technician | Odenton, MD
Maryland Mold and Waterproofing (MMW) is a residential specialty contractor based in Odenton, MD. We provide mold remediation, basement waterproofing, crawlspace encapsulation, and structural repair to homeowners across the region. Our team operates to a high standard: the work is done right, documentation is thorough, and quality is non-negotiable.
We are hiring a Mold Remediation Technician. This is a physically demanding field role. You will work in basements, crawlspaces, and attics, often in tight, humid, or otherwise challenging conditions. Full PPE is required on every job, including respirators and Tyvek suits. Day-to-day work involves demolition, cleaning, treatment, and encapsulation. Most jobs are completed with a partner technician, and both are expected to perform at a high level.
If you are comfortable with that environment and take genuine pride in careful, detail-oriented work, we encourage you to apply.
What You Will Do:
- Set up containment systems and negative air pressure on residential job sites
- Perform HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial application, and encapsulation according to project scope
- Document work completed accurately on every job
- Follow MMW safety protocols and quality standards without exception
- Represent MMW professionally in customers' homes (these are people's living spaces, not construction sites)
- Learn the trade properly and build toward Crew Leader responsibility over time
What We Need:
- Prior hands-on work experience in construction, restoration, cleaning, demolition, landscaping, or similar — we will teach you mold remediation; we cannot teach work ethic
- Physical capability to work in confined spaces, crawlspaces, and attics; lift 50+ lbs; and stay on your feet for a full day
- Comfort working in messy, humid, or tight environments. If this is not for you, this is not the role for you
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to our Odenton location
- Clean enough driving record to be insurable on company vehicles
- Professional conduct in customers' homes at all times
- Zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol on the job
What You Will Earn:
This is a performance-based role. You earn based on what you produce, not how many hours you sit on the clock.
Here is exactly how it works:
Your crew earns 10% of the net sale amount on every job completed. Our average mold remediation job sells for ~$4,250, which means your crew generates roughly $425 per completed job. How that is split between you and your crew partner depends on your role:
- New technicians start on equal footing with their partner — a 50/50 split — while building skills and familiarity with MMW's standards. At equal split, each completed job puts approximately $213 in your pocket.
- Crew leads — technicians who have been with MMW for at least 6 months and have demonstrated consistent quality, accountability, and communication — earn 55% of the crew share, with their partner earning 45%. At Crew Lead, each completed job puts approximately $235 in your pocket.
Your split is confirmed before every job starts. No surprises at paycheck time.
What a real week looks like:
Your Week | Jobs Complete | New Tech (50/50) | Crew Lead (55%)
Slow | 3–4 jobs | $650 – $850 | $700 – $935
Normal | 5–6 jobs | $1,063 – $1,275 | $1,170 – $1,425
Strong | 7–8 jobs | $1,575 – $1,800 | $1,645 – $1,900
Technicians running normal weeks consistently earn between $55,000 and $65,000 per year. Crew Leads at the same volume earn $61,000 and $75,000 per year.
Floor Protection: In any week where your earned amount falls below $650, MMW gaurantees you $650. This draw is recoverable against future earnings; it is a buffer for genuinely slow weeks, not a permanent subsidy. In practice, it activates only at the bottom of a slow week and becomes irrelevant once volume is normal.
Training Period: Your first 60 days are paid at $25/hour. This is structured, paid training — not a trial period. After 60 days, technicians who meet MMW's performance and quality standards move to the performance pay structure above.
Path to Crew Lead: After 6 months with MMW, technicians who have demonstrated consistent work quality, reliability, customer professionalism, and proactive communication with the team are eligible for Crew Lead designation — and the earnings premium that comes with it. This is not a vague promise. The criteria are specific and we track them from day one.
Quality standards: We hold high standards on every job. Callbacks and rework are tracked, addressed directly, and reflect on the whole team. Our quality accountability process is documented and applied consistently — it is part of what makes this pay structure work fairly for everyone.
