Bilingual Teacher
Position Summary
The Bilingual Teacher is responsible for providing rigorous, standards-based instruction in English and Spanish that ensures all Emergent Bilingual students achieve academic success while developing bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural competence. The teacher creates a safe, engaging, and student-centered classroom aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), HISD curriculum, and campus instructional expectations.
Essential Responsibilities
Instruction
- Deliver daily, high-quality instruction aligned to TEKS and HISD curriculum.
- Implement effective instructional strategies that promote student engagement, academic discourse, and critical thinking.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and language needs of all learners.
- Maintain clear learning objectives, success criteria, and checks for understanding throughout each lesson.
- Use instructional data to plan targeted interventions and accelerate student learning.
Language Development
- Provide instruction that supports the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in both English and Spanish.
- Integrate language objectives into daily lessons.
- Implement research-based bilingual instructional strategies that support Emergent Bilingual students.
- Foster bilingualism, biliteracy, and cultural appreciation.
Assessment and Data
- Monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments.
- Analyze assessment data to adjust instruction and provide timely interventions.
- Maintain accurate student records and progress monitoring documentation.
- Participate in campus data meetings and collaborative planning.
Classroom Environment
- Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.
- Implement effective classroom management systems that maximize instructional time.
- Maintain high expectations for student behavior, attendance, and academic performance.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, interventionists, special education staff, multilingual staff, and campus leadership.
- Participate actively in PLCs, professional learning, and instructional coaching.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress in the family's preferred language when possible.
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend required professional development and implement feedback from instructional observations.
- Maintain compliance with district, state, and federal policies, including LPAC requirements and student confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Texas EC–6 or appropriate teaching certification.
- Valid Texas Bilingual Certification.
- Demonstrated proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Knowledge of TEKS, bilingual education, second language acquisition, and effective instructional practices.
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
