Join the Textbook Brokers team as our Assistant Campus Store Manager at the Colorado School of Mines. In this role, you will oversee key aspects of store operations, emphasizing merchandise management and exceptional customer service. Your primary mission is to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence, ensuring our store serves as a top-tier resource for the Mines community.
Job Summary:
This position supports the Campus Store Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Colorado School of Mines Campus Store. As the Assistant Campus Store Manager, your responsibilities include hiring, on-boarding, planning and managing peak period staffing, ensuring coverage, greeting customers, handling in-person transactions, fulfilling online orders, and addressing phone inquiries and escalated issues.
This role is well-suited for a detail-oriented individual who thrives in managing both digital and physical workflows. You will also train seasonal team members on store, company, and institutional operations, manage the receipt, unloading, and display of merchandise according to company standards, and conduct regular audits of accounting and cash-handling practices to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Visual Merchandising and Sales Promotions: Design and maintain visually appealing merchandise displays to enhance customer engagement and optimize the shopping experience. Plan and execute sales promotions and special events to boost product visibility, drive sales, and increase customer engagement.
- Customer Experience and Community Engagement: Foster a customer-centric culture by leading by example in solutions-based selling and providing exceptional service. Actively build and sustain relationships with campus members and the local community to enhance engagement and loyalty. Greet customers, answer phones, provide information, and promptly resolve escalated issues, maintaining a hassle-free customer service environment.
- Operational Efficiency and Store Maintenance: Manage inventory by receiving, verifying, and unloading orders, and conducting scheduled stock checks. Operate cash registers and store computers for transactions, balance cash drawers, and prepare bank deposits. Uphold a clean, organized, and inviting store environment to ensure a positive customer experience and efficient operations.
- Financial Oversight and Compliance: Perform key holder duties, including opening and closing responsibilities. Balance cash, credit cards, and checks against register tapes, compile data for financial reporting, and research accounts receivable issues. Implement shrink prevention practices and ensure continuous service improvement.
- Team Leadership and Management: Supervise the work activities of seasonal team members, including planning and preparing work schedules to ensure proper coverage, hiring, on-boarding, training new hires, and enforcing company policies to maintain high standards of operation.
- Ad Hoc Responsibilities: Fill in for other personnel during breaks, lunch, vacations, or peak seasonal periods, including register operations, shipping/receiving, and other departmental duties.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 1-3 years of retail experience preferred, with prior supervisory experience highly desirable. This background will equip you to effectively manage store operations and lead a team.
- Computer Literacy: Proficient in general computer skills with a good understanding of retail management systems. This proficiency is essential for efficient daily operations and data management.
- Organizational Skills: Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks. This skill is crucial for managing the diverse demands of a busy retail environment and ensuring operational excellence.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, complemented by strong interpersonal skills. These are critical for engaging effectively with team members, customers, and community partners, ensuring a collaborative and customer-focused workplace.
