Trouble Defense LLC is a veteran-owned firearms and safety training company serving Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. Since 2012, we have provided professional, safety-focused instruction to first-time firearm owners, concealed-carry applicants, private clients, businesses, government organizations, and community groups.
We are seeking a dependable, professional, and safety-focused firearms instructor to join our growing instructional team.
Position Summary
The Certified Firearms Instructor & Range Safety Specialist will assist with classroom instruction, live-fire range training, student evaluations, firearm safety demonstrations, and concealed-carry courses.
The ideal candidate must be comfortable working with students of all experience levels, including first-time firearm owners, women, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and students who may be nervous or unfamiliar with firearms.
This position requires patience, strong communication skills, professionalism, reliability, and an unwavering commitment to firearm safety.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with and lead firearm safety and concealed-carry classes.
- Provide clear classroom instruction on firearm safety, handling, storage, and basic operation.
- Supervise students during live-fire range exercises.
- Enforce all range rules and Trouble Defense LLC safety procedures.
- Demonstrate proper loading, unloading, grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control, and firearm handling.
- Provide individual coaching and corrective instruction to students.
- Evaluate student performance and confirm completion of required training.
- Assist with classroom setup, training materials, targets, equipment, and range preparation.
- Maintain accurate attendance, qualification, and training records.
- Inspect training firearms and equipment before and after each class.
- Create a welcoming, respectful, and professional learning environment.
- Represent Trouble Defense LLC professionally at all times.
- Assist with private firearm training, corporate safety programs, and community events when needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current nationally recognized firearms instructor certification, such as NRA Certified Pistol Instructor or an equivalent credential.
- Strong knowledge of firearm safety and basic handgun operation.
- Experience supervising or coaching shooters on a live-fire range.
- Ability to communicate clearly with beginners and experienced firearm owners.
- Professional appearance and conduct.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Legally permitted to possess and handle firearms.
- Willingness to follow Trouble Defense LLC policies, lesson plans, and safety standards.
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain it.
Preferred Qualifications
- NRA Range Safety Officer or Chief Range Safety Officer certification.
- Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, D.C. firearms instructor credentials.
- Maryland Qualified Handgun Instructor certification.
- Experience teaching concealed-carry, home-defense, or beginner firearm courses.
- Military, law-enforcement, security, emergency-management, or instructional experience.
- Experience working with nervous shooters, senior citizens, women, individuals with disabilities, or first-time firearm owners.
- Knowledge of Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. firearm laws.
- Strong public-speaking, customer-service, and conflict-resolution skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods during classroom and range instruction.
- Ability to safely handle firearms, ammunition, targets, and training equipment.
- Ability to clearly communicate in an indoor or outdoor range environment.
- Ability to travel to approved classroom and range locations.
