SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Leads a team of facility mechanics to ensure the success and safety of daily maintenance actions. Responsible for maintenance and repair of Port facilities in an efficient, safe, and cost-effective manner thus ensuring protection of customer cargo and Port assets. Assist the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor to ensure all work is done in compliance with appropriate safety regulations, codes, and NCSPA policies and procedures.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
- Provide the team with clear daily work instructions. Prioritize work, delegate tasks, and assign workload in an equitable manner ensuring efficient and effective use and preservation of Port assets.
- Provide proactive and hands-on leadership with the team in the successful completion of maintenance projects, ensuring satisfactory completion of all tasks.
- Provide technical assistance as needed while providing leadership to complete all maintenance and repairs in the following areas: carpentry, plumbing, underground utilities, concrete forming and finishing, masonry, roofing, fire protection systems, painting, mechanical, overhead doors, loading ramps, excavation and grading, grounds keeping, asphalt, concrete docks, and street repairs. Assist with guidance and leadership for metal welding, fabrication, and electrical repairs.
- Complete, direct, and/or supervise maintenance and repair/improvements to marine terminal buildings, systems, utilities, wharf, streets, pavement, rail systems and grounds.
- Provide leadership and knowledge to the team for successful completion of all scheduled preventative maintenance tasks.
- Assist the team to diagnose and troubleshoot technical and functional problems with all Port systems.
- Lead the team while assisting in non-hazardous spill cleanup and trash handling.
- Actively participate in developmental training; share knowledge regarding all facets and responsibilities of facility maintenance with employees to expand team member skillsets.
- Lead the department in the absence of the Facility Supervisor.
- Perform data entry as required to create and complete workorders in the SAP or applicable system.
- Provide the department supervisor with data collections for expenses and capital improvement budget items needed.
- Conduct required inspections, including noting, documenting, and/or collecting photos if damages are found during pre and post vessel inspections of facilities and docks.
- Assist with maintaining all Coast Guard and D.O.I documentation for annual inspections.
- Accurately record daily activities on KPI time collection data form.
- Supply fresh water/garbage services and support to vessels as may be directed to include all documentation required for billing.
- Complete all assigned work in a timely and professional manner, ensuring internal and external customer service is a priority.
- Provide leadership, motivation, and guidance for team members. Work to maintain a high level of morale, excellent internal/external customer service and relations.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- 5 years of industrial facility experience is required.
- Experience and knowledge of facilities mechanical and electrical maintenance is preferred.
- Experience in a leadership position or role is preferred.
- Must be able to operate equipment including forklifts, manlifts, backhoe, scissor lift, transportation vehicles, shop equipment, power, and hand tools.
- Must be proficient in the use of business software, such as: MS Word, Excel, and email applications.
- SAP experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of GIS and print diagrams (mechanical / electrical) is preferred.
- Strong analytical and project management skills are preferred.
- Must be familiar with respiratory and hearing protection, lockout/tag out, and comply with all safety regulations and policies. A high level of safety consciousness is required.
- Position requires on-call and overtime outside normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet TWIC security requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Combinations of typical office and outside environments, with frequent exposure to hot and cold seasonal weather, exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and noise. Must be able to frequently lift to 50 pounds. Requires moderate physical demands to perform job duties. Must be able to routinely climb to heights of 50 feet, with the occasional requirements up to 200 feet. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, bending routinely, working in confined spaces with limited access, working on ladders and in personal lifts and working in awkward body positions. Position requires the ability to work above eye level and overhead frequently.
