We are seeking a skilled and experienced Scenic Carpentery Shop Foreman to lead our team in delivering high-quality scenery. Our team can consist of 2-8 carpenters (based on work load), electricians, welders, painters and laborers, depending on project size. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, extensive knowledge of scenic carpentry, and a commitment to maintaining safety and quality standards on and off site. This position is critical to our team; therefore, all candidates must possess a commitment to this role to ensure company growth. In this role, you will oversee the daily operations of carpentry projects, ensuring that all work is completed efficiently, safely, within budget and to client specifications.
Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate the activities of carpentry crews on and off-site, ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and schematics to understand project requirements and specifications.
Create purchase orders for needed materials
Attend meetings with clients, potential clients, shop, vendors and subcontractors
Hire and lay-off crew as needed
Perform reviews with employees periodically and as needed
Conduct quality control inspections to ensure all work meets industry standards and client expectations.
Utilize build software such as AutoCad accurate project budgeting and resource allocation.
Implement OSHA safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment for all team members.
Train and mentor junior carpenters, fostering skill development and teamwork.
Collaborate with project managers and other trades to ensure seamless project execution.
Maintain accurate records of daily activities, materials used, and labor hours.
Qualifications Needed:
7+ years of shop and studio experience as a scenic carpenter
5+ years management experience with a strong background in scenic/theatrical fabrication management
Proficiency in reading blueprint/CAD drawings
Familiarity with quality control processes and techniques in the theatrical scenery industry.
Ability to operate all shop tools and train when needed
Ability to work until the job is complete, with overtime as needed (nights, weekends, early mornings, etc)
Strong supervisory skills with the ability to lead a team effectively.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
A commitment to safety practices in accordance with OSHA regulations.
