THE POSITION
Become a Medical Records Technician with the Department of Corrections (DOC) and bring your attention to detail to a vital health care setting. At the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Coal Township, you will help ensure that medical records are complete, accurate, and maintained according to strict standards. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on maintaining accurate and complete medical records for inmates within the facility. It plays an important role in ensuring that health information is handled properly and in accordance with established standards. As a Medical Records Technician, you will perform the following duties:
- Record Management: Organize and maintain the integrated health record system for incarcerated individuals
- Coding Tasks: Code diseases, operations, therapies, and treatments according to established guidelines
- File Processing: File, withdraw, issue, and transfer medical records in compliance with confidentiality rules and legal requirements
- Record Review: Review medical records and reports for completeness and accuracy and refer incomplete records for correction
- Report Preparation: Prepare periodic statistical reports and assemble records for management review

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes). A higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirements:
- You must be in possession of a valid Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certificate or a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certificate issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or eligibility for certification including completion of an AHIMA approved RHIT or RHIA Health Information Management education program.
Conditions of Employment:
- Employees who meet the Necessary Special Requirement based on the eligibility option for the RHIT or RHIA certification must obtain one of these certifications within 12 months of employment.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
