Position Summary
The Fleet Manager is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and performance of the company's fleet of vehicles. This role ensures vehicles remain safe, compliant, and operational while minimizing repair costs and maximizing fleet availability. The ideal candidate is highly organized, mechanically knowledgeable, data-driven, and thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Operations
- Manage a fleet of company vehicles to maximize uptime and operational efficiency.
- Schedule and oversee preventative maintenance programs.
- Coordinate repairs with vendors and service providers.
- Monitor vehicle condition through inspections and driver reports.
- Track vehicle utilization and recommend replacements or upgrades.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all DOT, OSHA, state, and company regulations.
- Maintain accurate registration, insurance, licensing, and inspection records.
- Monitor driver safety performance and vehicle incidents.
- Conduct routine fleet safety audits.
- Investigate vehicle accidents and coordinate repair and insurance claims.
Vendor Management
- Build relationships with repair facilities, dealerships, and equipment suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing and service agreements.
- Evaluate vendor performance for quality, turnaround time, and cost.
Inventory Management
- Maintain inventory of fleet supplies including:
- Tires
- Batteries
- Fluids
- Vehicle equipment
- Safety supplies
- Spare parts
- Track company assets assigned to vehicles.
Budget & Reporting
- Develop and manage fleet maintenance budgets.
- Monitor fuel consumption and maintenance costs.
- Analyze KPIs including:
- Vehicle downtime
- Cost per mile
- Preventative maintenance compliance
- Repair frequency
- Fuel efficiency
- Prepare weekly and monthly operational reports.
Team Leadership
- Supervise fleet technicians (if applicable).
- Work closely with dispatchers, operations managers, and drivers.
- Train employees on vehicle care and reporting procedures.
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3+ years of fleet management or transportation operations experience.
- Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance programs.
- Experience managing vehicle maintenance vendors.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and fleet management software.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred
- Hands-on worker
- Experience managing Amazon DSP or commercial delivery fleets.
- ASE certification or mechanical background.
- Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
