MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The BT BOCES Virtual Learning Academy is seeking a passionate virtual Special Education Teacher committed to empowering students to overcome barriers, leverage technology for learning, and achieve meaningful academic success. The ideal candidate believes in the potential of every student and works collaboratively with families and educational teams to support progress toward graduation, post-secondary readiness, and lifelong success. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and student progress.
- Deliver differentiated, evidence-based instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
- Create a supportive virtual learning environment that promotes student success.
- Leverage technology and assistive tools to increase engagement and accessibility.
- Monitor student performance and use data to inform instruction and interventions.
- Collaborate with families, special education teams, and general education staff.
- Support students in meeting academic, behavioral, and graduation goals.
- Promote student self-advocacy, independence, and post-secondary readiness.
- Maintain compliance with NYS regulations and special education requirements.
- Complete documentation, progress reports, and service records accurately and on time.
- Participate in CSE meetings and multidisciplinary team collaboration.
- Maintain regular communication with students and families regarding progress and support.
Job Qualifications
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have NYS Certification as a Special Education Teacher: SWD 7-12 Generalist or SWD K-12; Dual certification in 7-12 Math, English, Science or Social Studies preferred but not required.
- Strong collaborative skills and ability to partner effectively with families, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to ensuring equitable access and meeting the diverse needs of all learners.
- Belief in the potential of every student to achieve academic success and reach graduation goals.
- Proficiency in instructional technology, virtual learning platforms, and assistive technology tools.
- Strong communication, organizational, and progress-monitoring skills.
- Ability to use student data to inform instruction and support academic growth.
