The Academic Coach is responsible for supporting teachers with specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities or exceptionalities. They collaborate with school administration to ensure classroom teachers develop and implement strategies for Tier 2 and 3 students, assess student progress, and develop instructional strategies based on the school’s academic focus. The Academic Coach is also responsible for communicating with staff to ensure a strong data-driven academic culture.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Evaluate students' learning progress and adjust school-wide instructional strategies as necessary to ensure academic growth and social-emotional development.
● Design instructional strategies that accommodate different learning styles and abilities, using various teaching techniques and resources.
● Communicate regularly with stakeholders to provide updates on school progress and solicit input to improve educational outcomes.
● Collaborate with other school professionals, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and behavioral specialists, to provide comprehensive support for students. ● Stay up to date on best practices and research in education and resource teaching to continuously enhance teaching methods and student support.
● Maintain accurate and organized records, including assessment data, and progress reports, to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
● Attend professional development opportunities, workshops, and meetings to expand knowledge and skills related to resource teaching and special education.
● Support the overall mission and goals of the school and work collaboratively with colleagues to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
● Work collaboratively with school administration and classroom teachers to improve the MTSS process through focused small group instruction.
● Collaborate with classroom teachers and administration to identify individual and group professional learning needs. Develop relevant professional development to ensure academic growth.
● Provide organized, personalized 1:1 or group learning opportunities for teachers to enhance instructional practices.
● Support teachers and administrators in analyzing and using data to make informed instructional decisions to improve instruction on all levels.
● Assist teachers with appropriate supplemental resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new research-based resources to engage students.
● Assist teachers with the facilitation of curricular planning aligned to the standards, pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to ensure coherence and effectively meet the needs of the students.
● Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.
● Contribute to the development of systems and structures to improve effective teacher practice within schools.
Submit a weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
● Collaborate with the AP on curriculum-related tasks such as ordering, rostering, and curriculum review.
● Lead or participate in curriculum review teams to ensure ongoing alignment with best practices and standards.
● Utilize testing data to conduct data chats and student tutoring programs, providing targeted support for instructional improvement.
● Providing support to the school administration with the development of the School Improvement Plan based on annual data review.
● Providing support to, or managing, the schools mentoring program.
● Provide support to, or run, the school testing program and ensuring compliance and timely submission of information.
● Measurable change in sustainable and effective teaching practices.
● Other duties as assigned by the school administration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited college or university.
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Florida Educators certificate required by the Florida Department of Education.
3-5 years of teaching experience.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
