JOB
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs a wide variety of responsible office and clerical duties; Types correspondence, reports, order forms, and a variety of documents. Assists pupils, parents, and staff in the office. Sorts forms, books, paper, print-outs for copying, distributing, filing, etc. Accurately maintains computer data for the records management system, including attendance for students, employees and substitutes. Prepares materials for use with students, teachers and administrators. Greets callers and visitors and directs them to the proper source.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Provides clerical support for department/unit as required;
Answers the phone, screens calls, takes messages, gives information over the phone, refers callers to appropriate source;
Greets all visitors courteously, determines their needs, checks appointments, and directs or escorts them to proper person;
Types letters, reports, documents and a variety of material. May prepare routine reports;
Sorts forms, books, papers, and printouts for copying, distribution, filing, etc.;
Files letters, cards, forms, and books, etc.;
Distributes mail, correspondence, copies, and computer printouts;
Proofreads documents to ensure accuracy;
Records all appointments and maintains records of daily activities;
Maintains accurate files;
Monitors students as needed, including a classroom during the absence of the teacher;
Performs related work as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and clerical techniques; ability to make arithmetic calculations; ability to file alphabetically; working knowledge of business English and spelling; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the school community; computer proficiency in office-related software (Microsoft, etc.) and equipment with the ability to quickly learn new systems; demonstrated ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by office and computer courses or direct experience; proficient at Microsoft programs.
Preferred: Prior clerical and office experience in a school or similar setting helpful. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Conducts work in a sitting position; however, job requires standing, walking, bending, stooping and light lifting of up to 20 lbs. unassisted.
