impeccable service. The Banquet Captain plays a key leadership role in delivering these
high standards of excellence.
Position Summary:
The Banquet Captain oversees banquet and event operations to ensure the flawless
execution of all functions at Almaden Golf & Country Club. This leadership role involves
supervising event staff, coordinating with management and culinary teams, ensuring
spaces are properly set, and maintaining exceptional service standards that reflect the
club’s reputation. The Banquet Captain also serves as the primary point person during
events for guests, members, and event staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Event Execution & Setup:
- Coordinate the full setup, execution, and breakdown of all banquet and club events
according to BEOs and Almaden service standards.
- Keep BEOs posted and updated.
- Assist with club, seasonal, and event décor.
- Ensure all event spaces—including banquet rooms, patios, pool areas, and outdoor venues—are prepared attractively and accurately, per the event order.
- Ensure the clubhouse returns to standard after events (signage reset, linen return, ballroom bar reset, etc.).
- Conduct pre-event meetings to review timelines, service expectations, assignments, and special requests.
- Communicate with culinary staff regarding meal timing, special dietary requests, and service flow.
- Serve as the lead interface between the club and the client to ensure a smooth, successful event experience.
Service Leadership & Staff Supervision:
- Directly supervise and lead front-of-house event staff throughout events.
- Assign event service positions, side-work, stations, and assign duties.
- Schedule staff breaks/meals, manage event timelines, and oversee uniform appearance and professionalism.
- Check out every staff member at the end of each shift before they clock out to ensure tasks are completed and standards met.
- Serve as the active floor leader during events, assisting with service as needed.
Client, Member, & Guest Relations:
- Act as the primary point of contact for hosts, planners, and members during events.
- Anticipate and address guest needs promptly and professionally.
- Maintain a polished, courteous presence to enhance the member experience.
Administrative & Facility Responsibilities:
- Attend mandatory monthly staff training sessions and meetings.
- Maintain detailed inventory and organization of all event supplies, décor items, linens, and equipment.
- Complete required post-event reports, service notes, and communication logs.
- Adhere strictly to all Almaden standards, policies, and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support club operations.
Service Appearance & Professionalism:
- Maintain standard business attire when not in uniform.
- Uphold grooming and personal hygiene expectations in accordance with club policy.
- Always model professional behavior and hospitality.
Education and Experience:
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Preferred.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional demeanor.
- Qualifications & Requirements
Experience & Skills:
- 2–3 years of banquet, event, restaurant, hotel, or country club leadership experience required.
- Strong understanding of fine-dining service, banquet operations, and event logistics.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide staff.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and calm under pressure.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands/walks approximately 40% of shift. Sits at desk or in meetings approximately 60% of shift. Occasionally required to handle and move objects weighing up to 40 lbs. over short distances. Must be able to work under pressure. Must be flexible to work long, sometimes irregular hours.
IMPACT OF DECISION: Decisions directly impact profitability of the Banquets Department Poor decisions may result in customer dissatisfaction and loss of revenues, due to lack of follow-up, ineffective management of staff, lack of customer knowledge, unsafe work practices, or improperly handled customer service situations.

JOB CLASSIFICATION: The position is classified as Full-Time and, upon completion of the Introductory Period, the employee is eligible for the Employee Benefits outlined in the Employee Handbook. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Company reserves the right to amend, change or discontinue the policies, practices and benefits described in the handbook at any time and without notice.
NON-EXEMPT POSITION: Non- exempt employees are subject to the wage and hour laws and entitled to overtime pay. All overtime work by a non-exempt employee must be approved in advance by the employee’s Supervisor of the General Manager and the time initiated by him/her on the time card. Non-exempt employees who work overtime without prior approval are subject to disciplinary action, including termination.
AT-WILL EMPLOYMENT: The relationship between Almaden Golf Club and the employee is for an unspecified term and is considered “at will.” This means that the terms and conditions of employment maybe changed, with or without cause and with or without notice, including, but not limited to termination, demotion, promotion, transfer, compensation, benefits, duties and location of work. No one other than the Owner of the Company has the authority to make any verbal or written agreement contrary to this provision and any such agreement must be put in writing and signed by the Owner before it is effective.
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
