Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care within our ophthalmology practice. This position involves assisting with various clinical tasks, ensuring a smooth patient intake process, and supporting the overall operations of the medical office. The Ophthalmic Assistant will work closely with both patients and healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality eye care services.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patient intake, including gathering medical history and performing preliminary assessments.
- Measure and record vital signs accurately.
- Assist in maintaining an aseptic environment during examinations and procedures.
- Provide support during ophthalmic examinations, including the use of diagnostic equipment.
- Document patient information in electronic medical records (EMR) systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients on pre-and post-operative care, as well as general eye health.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and assist with ordering as needed.
- Collaborate with the front desk team to ensure efficient scheduling and patient flow.
- Support retail sales of optical products, utilizing retail math skills for transactions.
Skills
- Strong understanding of patient care principles and practices.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Experience with intake processes and recording vital signs.
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques in a clinical setting.
- Optical experience is preferred, along with knowledge of ophthalmology practices.
- Background in medical office operations, including familiarity with medical terminology and anatomy knowledge.
- Proficiency in using EMR systems such as Epic for accurate documentation.
- Retail sales experience, particularly in optical or healthcare settings, is advantageous.
- Ability to manage medical records efficiently while understanding medical coding and billing processes.
