Engineering Manager (Power Distribution Equipment Exp. Req.) Description
Our client in the electrical equipment manufacturing industry is looking for an Engineering Manager to join their team near Houston, TX. In this role, you will lead a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for the design and development of highly customized power distribution equipment while overseeing engineering execution, technical quality, and team performance. The ideal candidate will have experience with power distribution equipment such as switchboards, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), or power distribution centers (PDCs). To be successful, you must be an effective people leader with strong engineering judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to balance management responsibilities with technical oversight. Engineering Manager (Power Distribution Equipment Exp. Req.) Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop an electrical and structural engineering team with 6–8 direct reports
- Manage daily engineering operations (85%) while providing hands-on technical support (15%)
- Review and approve electrical and structural designs for custom power distribution equipment
- Review single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and equipment layouts
- Oversee structural designs for enclosures, skids, PDC buildings, and support structures
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshoot complex engineering and design challenges
- Prioritize engineering workloads to support production schedules and project deadlines
- Ensure designs comply with customer specifications and applicable electrical codes
- Lead engineering design reviews and communicate solutions with customers and stakeholders
- Collaborate with project management, production, procurement, sales, and quality teams
- Support manufacturing operations and engineering activities on the shop floor as needed
- Develop and improve engineering standards, documentation, and design processes
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering quality & efficiency
Engineering Manager (Power Distribution Equipment Exp. Req.) Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive engineering experience is required
- Experience leading & managing a multidisciplinary engineering team is required
- Experience in designing or supporting power distribution equipment is required
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and industry standards is required
- Ability to work on-site Monday- Thursday is required (Fridays: work from home option available)
