Our shop runs on a state-of-the-art Peddinghaus robotic system paired with a SubX beam drill line, combining CNC part processing, high-speed multi-axis drilling, and intelligent layout marking to deliver precision fabrication for clients like Rio Tinto, Newmont, Intel, and Universal Studios.
POSITION SUMMARY
We're seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector to oversee weld quality and code compliance across our structural steel fabrication projects. You'll be the final checkpoint ensuring every weld meets AWS D1.1 and project-specific requirements before parts ship to demanding clients in oil & gas, power, mining, and advanced facilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform visual weld inspections (VT) on structural steel components at all stages of fabrication
- Verify welder qualifications, procedure qualification records (PQRs), and welding procedure specifications (WPSs)
- Review shop drawings, weld symbols, and project specifications to confirm correct joint design and weld requirements
- Coordinate and review results from NDT methods (UT, MT, PT, RT) performed by in-house or third-party technicians
- Document inspection results, nonconformances, and corrective actions in accordance with quality control procedures
- Verify compliance with AWS D1.1, project specifications, and client/AISC quality requirements
- Communicate with fabrication, engineering, and project management teams on weld quality issues and dispositions
- Maintain calibration records for inspection equipment and gauges
- Support internal welder qualification testing and periodic requalification
- Participate in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement of weld quality processes
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience inspecting structural steel welding (heavy structural fabrication preferred)
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code and AISC quality requirements
- Familiarity with NDT methods (UT, MT, PT, RT) and ability to interpret results
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and cross-team coordination
- Comfortable working in a shop environment with exposure to fumes, dust, and noise
- Physical ability to stand, bend, climb, and inspect parts for extended periods
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/trade certification a plus
