Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and general dentistry treatments
- Prepare treatment areas by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning correctly in accordance with dental sterilization procedures and infection prevention management policies
- Take dental x-rays while adhering to proper aseptic techniques and radiation safety protocols
- Support patients by taking vital signs, explaining procedures using dental terminology, and addressing their questions with professionalism and empathy
- Maintain clinical confidentiality policies while handling sensitive medical records and documentation
- Assist with dental instrument processing, ensuring all tools are properly sterilized and stored for safe reuse
- Support the dental team in chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency during patient care
Skills
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry and pediatrics
- Experience with dental x-ray procedures
- Expertise in infection control practices aligned with healthcare infection prevention standards and aseptic techniques
- Ability to perform dental sterilization procedures accurately to ensure safety and compliance
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices to effectively assist young patients
- Excellent communication skills as a dental receptionist when coordinating appointments or explaining procedures to patients
- Knowledge of medical coding for billing purposes related to dental services
- Hands-on experience in clinical settings with general dentistry or specialized fields like prosthodontics or oral surgery
