Structural Project Engineer
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated engineer who wants to grow professionally, take on meaningful design challenges, and work directly alongside experienced leadership. As a Structural Project Engineer at VK Engineers, you’ll work hand in hand with our Principal Engineer, who brings 40 years of structural engineering experience, gaining valuable exposure to a wide range of projects and real-world design solutions.
In this role, you will play an important part in taking projects from concept and design through calculations, documentation, and construction. You’ll be involved in developing practical, efficient, and code-compliant structural systems while collaborating with the project team to deliver high-quality results for our clients.
Some key duties and responsibilities include:
- Act as Lead Designer on projects to analyze and design simple structures using engineering judgement, computer software, spreadsheets and hand calculations
- Prepare project specifications and verify that design meets city/county code requirements
- Coordinate design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, technology, clerical and equipment suppliers
- Document design decisions, meetings, and instructions from clients promptly while monitoring project design progress as related to fee expended
- Review all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to submitting for plan check
- Identify potential project issues quickly and seek advice from the Project Director and Principal
- Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required
- Conduct structural analysis and design calculations using software tools
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other professionals to develop project plans and resolve design issues
- Conduct quality control checks to ensure the accuracy and integrity of structural designs
- Stay updated on industry trends, advancements, and best practices in structural engineering
Key skills and abilities needed for the position are:
- A demonstrated aptitude for managing multiple projects
- Software proficiency: AutoCAD, Enercalc, Risa 3D, Etabs
- Strong communication and people skills and team players required
Education and experience requirements are:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil/ Structural Engineering is required
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in structural/seismic engineering
- Must have experience in a wide variety of structural materials and building types, with emphasis on steel, concrete, and wood.
- Experience with seismic evaluation and retrofit of existing buildings using ASCE-41 is a plus.
- California Professional Engineering license (PE) is a plus
