Position Overview:
WBLS (107.5-FM), New York’s number 1 station for R&B is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Board Operator to join our on-air team. The Board Operator is responsible for running the control board during live and pre-recorded shows, ensuring smooth technical execution, and supporting talent and producers during broadcasts across both brands.
This role requires strong technical skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced live environment, and a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:

Operate the audio control board for live and recorded programming

Ensure music logs, commercials, and imaging are played back according to the daily log

Ensure proper levels, transitions, and sound quality on-air

Coordinate with producers, hosts, and engineering to maintain broadcast flow

Manage phone systems for live call-ins and remote guests

Record and edit audio as needed

Monitor FCC compliance and ensure all station policies are followed

Troubleshoot minor technical issues during broadcasts

Assist with studio setup for guests and special programming
Qualifications:

Prior experience operating a control board in a radio station preferred

Familiarity with radio automation systems (Zetta, VoxPro, etc.) is a plus

Strong understanding of broadcast equipment and audio levels

Ability to stay calm and focused during live broadcasts

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
