POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Production Shop Supervisor, the Gear Technician services aircraft landing gear components through troubleshooting, diagnostic testing, and parts replacement at the component/depot level using manuals and other data. This position requires strong mechanical ability and great attention to detail. A Gear Technician must be willing to accomplish both repetitive and unfamiliar tasks on a regular basis with the use of aviation repair manuals.
Essential Functions Statement(s)
- Performs inspections, maintenance, and repairs of components such as landing gear and related
components.
- Read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
- Measure parts for wear, using precision instruments.
- Replace or repair worn, defective, or damaged components, using hand tools, gauges, and testing
equipment.
- Modify aircraft structures, space vehicles, systems, or components, following drawings, schematics, charts, engineering orders, and technical publications.
- Orders parts and requests vendor repair work to be accomplished.
- Maintain repair logs, documenting all preventive and corrective aircraft maintenance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
Experience:
- Experience in Aircraft Maintenance preferred.
Extensive experience in Auto Mechanics desired.
