About the Role
This company is a manufacturer in the plastics and chemicals industry seeking a Commodity Manager to lead procurement of raw materials and indirect and non-production materials. This role is critical to ensuring cost effective sourcing, continuity of supply, and alignment with operational and business objectives across US facilities. The Commodity Manager works cross functionally with Procurement, Supply Chain, Regulatory, Quality, Sales, Technical Services, and Operations to drive supplier performance, cost savings, and supply chain efficiency, with a focus on resins, TiO2, carbon black, and chemical additives.
Schedule
Full time. Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
Compensation
$95,000 to $100,000 annually, depending on experience.
What You'll Do
The Commodity Manager manages purchasing requirements across US facilities, maintaining detailed purchase records and vendor data including specifications, pricing history, performance, and contracts. This role conducts market analysis to identify trends, cost drivers, and technology shifts within the supply base, and leads supplier selection, quotation processes, total cost of ownership analysis, and contract negotiations. The Commodity Manager builds and maintains strong supplier relationships through site visits, audits, and performance evaluations, and develops commodity strategies to maximize purchasing leverage, continuity of supply, and cost efficiency.
This role supports material budget planning, cost forecasting, and key performance initiatives, and leads supplier negotiations, cost reduction workshops, and corrective action processes. The Commodity Manager partners with cross functional teams to mitigate supply risk and drive continuous improvement in supplier performance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, Chemistry, or a related field
- 5 or more years of procurement experience
- Strong industry knowledge in plastics and chemicals procurement
- Expertise in supplier relationship management and strategic sourcing
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering documents
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Procurement experience in the plastics or chemical industry
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
- Knowledge of supply market trends, industry associations, and contract law as it relates to purchasing
